FEROCIOUS BLACK METAL SPICED WITH FOLK ELEMENTS AND THE RIGHT ATTITUDE.
ONE SONG, ONE EPIC ACT, IT’S THE BEST WAY TO SUMMARIZE IT. FOLK SYNERGIZES VERY WELL WITH ATMOSPHERIC BLACK METAL, BALANCING SLOW ACOUSTIC PASSAGES AGAINST BRUTAL ONES, OFTEN SOMETHING VERY HARD TO DO AND GETS EVEN HARDER WHEN MELODIC (POST ROCK-ISH) ELEMENTS ARE THROWN IN THE MIX.
WELL, GOOD NEWS: IT HAS ALL THAT AND THE EXECUTION IS FLAWLESS.
THAT IS WORTH YOUR ATTENTION ALONE, BUT LET ME ELABORATE A BIT MORE.
ALTHOUGH THE FOCUS HERE IS ALWAYS THE MUSICAL ASPECT, I CANNOT NOT MENTION THE MESSAGE BEHIND IT (FROM THE BAND’S BANDCAMP):
Inspired by the book of the same name by Peter Grey, Apocalyptic Witchcraft was composed as a cyclical sigil for meditation and ritual, a harmonious bonding of folk and black metal that reflects a return to a balanced mind and body. Faced with a greater quantity and rate of disparate influences than ever, it is important that we claim ourselves and our needs as sacred, that we carve out time and space to practice whatever form our craft takes, that which strengthens us and our connection to nature.
We as artists must not create esoteric art in order to alienate others, but rather to remind those who feel ostracized that they are not alone. There is peace in that, however small it may seem at times.
With that in mind, I mark Samhain with this release and honor the memory of TG whose spirit and humor will never be lost.
